sanctuary: return to rest

Monday 7th - Friday 11th november 2022

Our Sanctuary retreats are artfully and mindfully curated by Cat Hindson and Molly Anne Chinner to follow the cycle of the seasons. We invite you to immerse yourself into a cyclical way of living and ~being~ when you retreat with us at our refuge in the heart of the Peak District. Each retreat gathers a supportive circle of women for a week full of soulful movement, vibrational sound, and ancient ceremony to reclaim your wild and authentic Self. This is an opportunity to slow down and tune into the natural world around you; to connect with yourself and with other amazing women.

Sanctuary: Return to Rest is our autumn creation to support you in tuning into what your heart needs right now as we turn into winter. Cat and Molly will be facilitating a collection of beautiful practices over the week including: fire ceremony, women’s circles, breathwork, cold water swimming, elemental flow into nidra, yin yoga, cacao ceremony, shamanic healing, crystal bowls and gong. Our practices will go deep, but the pace of our week will be slow, gentle, and supportive. Taking the time to appreciate the crisp autumnal morning over steaming mugs of cacao, gentle walks over crunching leaves in the magical forests of the Peak District, cosy evenings curling up and reading by the fire. Are you feeling the call to join us?

our home

Our home for the week is a rustic and contemporary old cattle shed conversion situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The house has 11 beautifully appointed ensuite rooms and an open-plan lounge dining room with spectacular views across the Hope Valley. It is the perfect setting to switch off and unwind. Spend your time here relaxing in front of the wood-burning fire, gathering at the magnificent dining table for delicious meals together, wake up to fresh coffee and sunrise on the large south-facing terrace, and stargaze around the fire pit as the nights draw in.

seasonal dining

We are thrilled to be collaborating once again with the amazing Jeni England to feed us on retreat. All meals are included in the cost of retreat and please know that we take food very seriously – you will be well fed! We can of course cater to any dietary requirements, please let us know of any when you book. Jeni will be bringing us a fully plant-based menu packed full of seasonal and delicious veggies, grains, and pulses. Expect abundant, nourishing plant-based feasts for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners made from scratch using sustainable and local ingredients.

THE PRACTICES

Sanctuary offers a wide selection of practices for a completely immersive retreat experience. We work with a fluid schedule that caters to the energy of the group. Our mornings usually begin with an (optional) cold water swim followed by vinyasa yoga into yoga nidra. Our late afternoon practice tends to be restorative/ yin. Our evenings together are a chance to dive deep into the magick of cacao, sound, circles, and ceremony. Whilst we understand it’s your time and your body, we wholeheartedly encourage full participation in the practices over the week. To give you an idea of what to expect, here is a guide to the practices which Cat and Molly will be facilitating.

CACAO cEREMONY

intention and circle

We open our retreat with a cacao ceremony.

Sacred cacao has been used for millennia by indigeonous peoples to open the heart and awaken the soul. A gentle and expansive plant medicine, Cacao allows us to step outside of the mind and enter the body, clearing a pathway for our greatest wants and needs to unravel without resistance. When drunk in ceremony, Cacao can be a transformational and loving medicine.

Opening our space for the retreat by dancing through an ecstatic evening of movement, breathwork, meditation, journalling, sacred cacao and radiant sound bath.

Come bearing an open heart and a big smile for an evening of love.

VINYASA YOGA

MOVE AND BREATHE

Vinyasa yoga practice is a space to show up on the mat and meet yourself where you are.

Explore the landscape of your body by following the rhythm of your breath to stretch, release, and reset.

Morning movement magic.

sound bathing

RESONANCE AND VIBRATION

Our entire cosmos is woven together on the fabric of vibration. We are made of vibration and a mesh of ever-changing frequencies. Sound healing is an ancient technique that uses the application and manipulation of sound and vibration to stimulate healing patterns in the body and mind.

Lie down. Close your eyes. Relax. And be treated to an ambient soundscape of gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, himalayan bowls and mantra.

No actual baths involved.

cold water

DIPS AND PLUNGES

Cold water is magic. Cold water in wild places is next level divine.  Immersing the body into flowing rivers or still lakes, releasing endorphins, and nourishing the soul is what we live for. There will be optional cold dips each morning on retreat.

circle

see and be seen

Women’s circles are gatherings of women for women. Sometimes referred to as red tents, or moon lodges, the circles are spaces open to all ages, in which women gather during a new moon or full moon. Due to alleged similarities between lunar cycles and female cycles, historically the moon has been seen as harnessing a lot of power for women. It's why traditionally a full moon was seen as prime time for women to gather and grow awareness of their cycles. To this day, circles are a supportive environment in which women can be heard, held and seen without judgment.

YIN and sound

REST AND REcharge

An evening practice of yin and sound is the perfect way to recharge.

Yin Yoga is a great way to reset your body and mind and with the additional Sound experience, you will reemerge feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

We use the intentional vibrations as a guide to drop into the body and feel our way into a deep meditation – set to a soundscape of peaceful tones. Expect gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, bells and soaring vocals.

yoga NIDRA

MEDITATE AND DREAM

In Nidra sessions we weave a deeply enchanting rest space  that washes through the body's subtle energy systems, cleansing and clearing any energy blocks, allowing our vitality and Prana to build within.

These sessions form of deep and transcendent meditation, slipping the body into total relaxation, calming the mind, and relieving tension.

BREATHWORK

PRESENCE AND FEELING

Guided breathwork practices invite you to expand your nervous system range, release anxious thoughts, cleanse stress, and land into the Present.

Through manipulating the breath we create a sanctuary for ourselves where we feel grounded, relaxed, and safe to be still.
